A Birmingham woman could be set to receive accident compensation after being permanently disabled in a taxi crash.
The accident happened when the 49-year-old woman was taking a taxi home after a night out. She can’t remember anything about the accident, although has traumatic flashbacks. The taxi driver has now been convicted of dangerous driving after the head-on collision and jailed for eight months, as well as banned from driving for three years. Media reports suggest that he had been using his mobile phone in the car.
The woman was in hospital for over eight weeks after the accident, suffering from a fractured neck, pelvis and hips and a broken leg, arm and chestbone. She had to undergo numerous operations and can no longer walk without crutches, but says she hopes to be able to one day.
The court heard that the taxi driver had been driving too fast and lost control of his vehicle when going round a corner. The taxi careered across the road and smashed into another vehicle head-on.
Before the accident the injured woman had been a carer for her autistic 14-year-old son and had been a keen gym-goer. She is now seeking accident compensation.
