A caretaker has received an accident compensation payout following serious damages obtained while at work.
The 44-year-old from Walsall received compensation of £3,000 after he was exposed to noxious fumes while at work. The man in question had began to use a new cleaning product supplied by his employers, but it caused him to pass out, which resulted in him breaking his ribs in a fall.
Speaking to the Birmingham Post, he remarked: “I had no idea what I was using or how strong it was.
“I was using step ladders and I’m just glad I had got down from them before I fell, otherwise my injuries could have been much more severe.”
The caretaker explained that the new substance had been poured out of its original bottle, leaving no instructions on how to use it correctly.
He was forced to take three months off work following the incident and ended up taking a total of six months to recover fully.
The accident compensation claim was successfully settled out of court for £3,000, although the injury lawyer did say that the accident at work could have been prevented through the use of “clear labelling and proper training”.
