Personal injury claim to follow from Liverpool workers?

Two workers at Liverpool docks might want to look into their options regarding personal injury claims after an accident at work.

The men, who were employed by a crane maintenance firm at the Seaforth Container Terminal in Liverpool, were both burned by a 6,600 volt surge after climbing up a dockside crane to check the electricity supply.

The incident, which occurred in March of 2008, also saw one of the individuals temporarily blinded.

A prosecution and investigation brought by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the workers were wrongly under the impression that there were just 415 volts running through the junction box of the crane platform when they were requested to investigate why there had been a power failure.

The pair, who went to test the junction box with two other colleagues, had not received adequate training for the job and were not offered any diagrams or information regarding the real voltage of the crane.

As a result of their employer's failings, the company has this month been fined £15,000 and ordered to pay £14,568 in prosecution costs. However, the injured parties might want to consider bringing an accident compensation claim against the firm as well.
