A pedestrian who was hit by a car as she crossed a zebra crossing has won £4,000 in accident compensation.
The woman was walking home from work when the accident happened in November 2009. As she crossed a zebra crossing, a car ran into her. She was thrown over the bonnet and hit her head as she landed, knocking her out. She also sustained cuts and bruises, including a black eye.
Since the accident, the woman has had back and neck-ache and has also suffered psychologically. She reports having nightmares and flashbacks, losing self-confidence and feeling anxious when needing to cross a road. The victim said that she saw the car coming towards her but presumed it would slow down and stop because she was on the zebra crossing. However, the driver said he had not seen her.
The driver admitted liability for the road accident and the case was settled out of court. The woman’s lawyer commented that had a child been on the zebra crossing, the likelihood is that they would have been killed. She said that although her client had recovered physically, the psychological impact still affected her day-to-day life.
