A city courier has received £20,000 in accident compensation after falling through a pub trapdoor.
The Peterborough-based courier had been delivering to a London pub when the accident happened. He was walking through the bar area looking for someone to sign for the day’s delivery when he fell through a trapdoor in the floor which had been left open.
The man fell into the cellar, breaking his back and damaging ligaments in his knee during the fall. The self-employed courier was unable to go back to work for almost two months due to his injuries. Following the incident, the courier had to undergo major surgery and intense rehabilitation sessions. He has now made a recovery, although still has some scars.
After the accident the man instructed a personal injury law specialist to make a claim for accident compensation. He claimed for the injuries he sustained and for his loss of earnings. Although the accident happened in 2009, the case has only just been resolved with an accident compensation award of £20,000.
Peterborough Today reports that the man celebrated his accident compensation victory by presenting his personal in jury lawyer with a case of vintage wine as a thank-you.
