A man is seeking an accident compensation payout following a fall from a seawall in Essex.
The man was out walking along a path located next to the seawall in East Mersea, Essex, with his wife when the accident took place in August of this year.
He lost his footing whilst walking and slipped 25 feet to the ground below, suffering serious injuries.
Following the incident – in which he broke his legs and five ribs, as well as suffering a head injury and a punctured lung – the emergency services took more than three hours to bring him to safety.
The man has since been unable to go back to work following the accident as a result of the severity of his injuries.
According to the Harwich and Manningtree Standard, the man is now making an accident compensation claim against Essex County Council, who are in charge of looking after the public right of way along the seawall.
A council spokesperson contacted the newspaper to say that they were 'in contact' with the man, but that it was not standard practise to install lights and barriers on the rural path, which is something the man and his wife are pushing for.
