A man who suffered serious head injuries after falling down a flight of stairs at a hotel has filed an accident compensation claim.
The man was visiting his partner, who was the assistant manager at the Clock Tower Hotel in Exeter, when the accident occurred in November 2009.
The pair were returning to the on-site flat his partner lived in when the man slipped at the top of the six concrete steps located outside the flat. He fell down the steps and hit his head on the floor at the bottom.
The man suffered severe head injuries as a result of the fall, and he has suffered permanent disabilities since the accident. Straight after he fell, he was taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to remove a section of his skull. The man then had a metal plate fitted into his skull at a later date.
The fall has left him with concentration and memory issues, meaning that he has been unable to return to work since.
He is now said to be seeking an undisclosed accident compensation payout from the hotel, according to The Plymouth Herald.
The legal team acting on behalf of the man are maintaining that the steps should have been fitted with a safety handrail in order to prevent any accidents happening.
The lighting on the stairs should also have been in working order, the legal team is arguing. The newspaper reported that the case looks set to be settled in 2012.
