A flower arranger who was suing a church for £30,000 in accident compensation after she tripped and fell has received an out-of-court settlement, it has been reported.
The 78-year-old tripped and fell over a home-made doormat at the church’s entrance. She had gone to the church to arrange flowers for the Sunday service. When she was returning from putting flower cuttings in the compost heap outside her left foot caught on the front step's doormat, causing her to fall forward. An ambulance took her to hospital.
She was claiming accident compensation from the church and landowner, saying that the accident had left her disabled and depressed. Her shoulder was dislocated in the fall and she also suffered tendon damage.
A two-day stay in hospital was required and the woman needed to take morphine, as well as needing months of physiotherapy. She claims that she will never make a full recovery. Her action alleged that the doormat did not fit the step correctly.
The Scotsman reports that the case has now been settled out of court but details of exactly how much accident compensation she received have not been revealed.
