An employee might want to consider making an accident compensation claim after an injury at work left him with long-term difficulties.
The 46-year-old man from Ayrshire was crushed between two skips at a recycling centre when a shovel loader hit one of the skips and pushed it towards the other. Despite the screaming for help, the driver did not hear the victim at first and continued to drive. He then took two attempts to lift the skip away from the injured employee.
After being taken to Ayr Hospital, the victim was treated for a broken pelvis. He was left with a number of other severe and life-changing injuries, which have resulted in mobility issues.
Aileen Jardine, an inspector with the Health and Safety Executive, commented: “[The worker] suffered horrendous injuries that will affect him for the rest of his life – but this incident was entirely avoidable.
"If [the employer] had taken simple steps to protect their staff, carrying out a proper risk assessment and taking measures to separate employees from the heavy vehicles that operated on site, this would not have happened.”
