Cyclist wins accident compensation after pothole injury

A cyclist has been awarded over £2,000 in accident compensation after he was injured in a pothole accident.

The man was out cycling when the front wheel of his bike suddenly went down a pothole, catapulting him off. He suffered several cuts and bruises. The pothole surrounded a valve belonging to a major water company.

Since his accident the man has called for local authorities to be more diligent about potholes and to take into account the number of injuries that they regularly cause cyclists. He also urged people to report potholes as soon as they notice them to prevent accidents.

He added that if the incident had happened just an hour earlier it would have been rush hour and could therefore have been much more serious.

The cyclist’s solicitor confirmed that potholes present a serious risk for road users such as cyclists, drivers and pedestrians. Those who are injured because of a pothole in the road may be able to claim accident compensation.

The water company said that the pothole, cause by a sunken valve, was repaired soon after the accident happened and that it was sorry to hear about the incident with the cyclist.
