Cyclist wins £5,000 in accident compensation

A man from Bournemouth has won £5,000 in accident compensation after he had a collision with a temporary sign and was injured.

The man was cycling to work in 2007 on a dark, rainy morning when he accidentally crashed into the temporary road sign. The cyclist claimed that the sign was blocking his path on a badly lit road and he did not see it, despite having a working light on his bike. He suffered serious injuries due to the collision, including torn muscles and ligaments in his legs and lower body which left him with walking problems for a number of weeks after the incident.

He was also unable to work for a week following the accident. The court heard that the man is the main carer for his wife who suffers from arthritis and that his wife was caused pain and discomfort by having to care for him and take over the household chores while he was unable to do them.

The injured cyclist made an accident compensation claim against the council on account of the sign being unlit and was awarded £5,000 after a County Court hearing.
