A chef is seeking to claim accident compensation after she suffered extreme burns at work.
The 47-year-old woman was working alone in the kitchen at the time of the accident, preparing a large curry to be served as part of a meal for 500 people at the Birmingham NEC. There were just three staff on the premises at the time and, when the chef fell into a cooking pot in the kitchen, she was unable to attract attention for around ten minutes. The woman was also unable to help herself out of the vat of curry.
Horrendous burns covered a large area of her lower body and after being admitted to hospital, the victim received extensive skin graft treatment. However, she is still required to wear special tights to prevent her skin from peeling off. She also takes strong painkillers and has been unable to work since the incident due to physical and psychological issues.
While the company the chef worked for has since gone into liquidation, she is still working with an injury lawyer in order to seek accident compensation from the caterer’s insurance firm, claiming that no protective clothing, apart from an apron, was offered to her and during her time at the firm she received no health and safety training.
