Car crash victim awarded £1.35 million in accident compensation

A young woman who was injured when the car she was travelling in was struck by a truck has been awarded an interim accident compensation payout of £1.35 million.

The woman, then 17, was travelling in the passenger seat of a friend’s car when it pulled out in front of a lorry. There was a crash and she suffered serious head injuries and internal damage. Following the accident, she was in a coma for six months. She has been staying in a residential rehabilitation centre since and needs constant care.

Now, four years after the accident, she has been awarded an accident compensation interim payment of £1.35 million so that she can go and live with her family again. The girl’s family will buy and adapt a new house which caters for their daughter’s specific needs, and say they hope she’ll be able to move in by the end of the year.

The £1.35 million is only an interim payment and experts suggest that it is likely to be only a fraction of the amount she will eventually receive. A High Court hearing next year will decide what the full amount of accident compensation should be.
