A bus passenger has launched an accident compensation claim for more than £300,000, it has been revealed.
According to reports from the Daily Star, the 68-year-old man was left paralysed after attempting to disembark from a double decker bus in the centre of Sheffield. As he was attempted to get off, a lorry collided with the bus, throwing him to the floor.
He was left with a fractured neck, severe adjustment depressive disorder and is partially paralysed.
The lorry driver was arrested at the time of the incident and subsequently convicted of driving without due care and attention and fined £2,000.
While the employer has admitted the company's liability, no agreement has been reached regarding the level of compensation the victim is in line to receive. He claims that he is demoralised and depressed and in need of long-term psychological treatment. The man also suffered a number of problems while receiving hospital treatment after the initial accident, including the superbug MRSA.
He is now resident at an extra care housing scheme where two carers work to give him top up care seven hours a day, five days a week.
