An incident at a theme park in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, might prompt the people involved to make an accident compensation claim.
A health and safety investigation is currently underway after a grandmother and her granddaughter were hurled from the fairground ride. The 58-year-old woman and the four-year-old girl were on the Jungle River log flume when it stopped and jammed during operation.
The ride then restarted but witnesses reported that as it did so the pair were flipped from their carriage.
Councillor Cyril Marsburg, the mayor of Bridlington, told the PA: "It was a sunny day and it was very busy on the seafront. People were horrified when they saw what was going on.
"I'm quite surprised there were no safety belts on the ride; had there been, they would not have been thrown out."
Both of the people were airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment. The young girl suffered gashes to her leg but the older woman has had to have her leg amputated.
The serious nature of the injury could prompt the grandmother to press forward with an accident compensation claim against the theme park.
