Accident compensation claim an option for crash victim

A man knocked down by previous Babyshambles front man Pete Doherty's car could bring an accident compensation claim against the notorious reveller.

The 45-year-old man was hit by Doherty's car, which was being driven by his agent, in 2009. He was left with severe brain injuries and fractures to many of his bones and is now unaware of any of his surroundings.

Following the incident, Doherty was banned from driving for allowing his car to be used by an uninsured motorist, while the driver himself was convicted of driving offences and jailed.

However, the Motor Insurer's Bureau (MIB) has now agreed to a High Court damages settlement, which could see the victim and his family receive a confidential lump sum and a substantial five-figure payout every year in order to fund his care costs.

The MIB is the body which compensates victims on uninsured drivers and the court heard that Doherty had been brought into the case at the MIB's express request due to the fact that it was his car that did the damage.

The family are reported to be devastated by the accident but are working hard to care and support for the victim.
