An accident at work has resulted in a technician having to take six weeks off work.
The 60-year-old man was conducting a routine check on a lorry when a metal prop, which holds up the lorry's cab, gave way. The cab fell on him, leaving the man with two broken ribs as he was trapped for ten minutes.
A guilty plea was entered by the trucking company and the firm has since been issued with a substantial fine by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). However, the victim may still want to consider making an accident compensation claim for his injury due to the problems suffered.
Ivan Brooke, HSE inspector, explained that the trucking company did manage to identify risks facing its employees but it failed to ensure that they had the necessary information or that they were properly trained. He noted that he victim's injury “could have been foreseen and prevented”.
“And it all could have been much worse,” added Mr Brooke. “There are cases of people having been killed by falling vehicle cabs. HSE will not hesitate to take companies, big or small, to court when they fail to behave responsibly and so expose their workers to risk.”
