£300k accident compensation claim sought

A holidaymaker is seeking an accident compensation claim of £300,000 following an injury at a caravan park.

The woman and her family from Basingstoke had booked four chalets at a Cornish caravan park and were told that one would be suitable for a wheelchair user, the Basingstoke Gazette reported. But upon arrival, the group discovered that the woman's chalet could only be accessed by five high steps and no other accommodation was available.

After a day out, the lady who is making an injury claim attempted to climb the steps with the help of crutches, but slipped in the rain. This resulted in her injuring her spine, which led to the loss of sensation and movement in her limbs. She is now unable to move short distances without a wheelchair as before and is much more dependant on others.

In her accident claim for £300,000, the woman claims that the caravan company was negligent and failed to provide suitable wheelchair access to the property, wrongly claimed the property was suitable for a wheelchair user and failed to provide safe steps, handrails and anti-slip surfacing to offer safe access to the caravan.
