A worker at a dismantling firm has been left disabled following a serious workplace accident.
Christopher Gerald Kaye was employed by Euro Dismantling Services Ltd and was carrying out work at a building site in Sheffield when the accident took place in October 2008.
Mr Kaye had been told by his supervisor to take a grapple attachment away from the excavating machinery that was being used in the building process.
As the man was removing a steel pin to detach the grappling attachment, the machinery shifted and he was hit in the face. The accident caused Mr Kaye severe head and brain injuries.
As a result, he has been left needing round-the-clock care and attention, as he has been left disabled. Due to the injuries he sustained, a claim for accident compensation was made against his former employers and the case has been settled out of court.
According to the Sheffield Star, the man has already received an interim compensation pay-out of more than £1million to cover the modifications that needed to be made to his accommodation.
A further pay-out and annual payments have now been agreed in order to cover the costs of the care he needs.
