A supermarket will pay accident compensation to a former employee who slipped on a spillage at work and injured her back.
At the time of the accident in 2007, the woman had worked for the retailer for seven years, according to reports. She was working in the store’s bakery when she slipped on some egg spilled on the floor. She fell onto a concrete floor, sustaining a suspected fractured back. She was unable to work after the accident and has since retired.
After the incident, the woman, now 65, couldn’t walk significant distances and had trouble lifting. According to media reports, when she was told by her employer that a position entailing lighter duties wasn’t available, she decided to claim for accident compensation.
Although the claim was initially contested, the woman’s complaints about her ongoing back issues were backed up by medical professionals and the supermarket has now agreed to pay £27,000 in compensation.
The woman told a local newspaper that she still shops at the store, whilst a spokesperson for the retailer said the company apologised for any upset caused and wished its former employee well for the future.
