A woman has been awarded personal injury compensation after falling off a horse and breaking her back and pelvis.
Reports say that the woman was riding a horse which had not been broken in for long. The horse she was riding was startled by another horse and it reared up and threw her off.
According to media coverage, the other horse was being ridden by an employee of the stable who was aware that the newly broken-in horse became agitated if it was overtaken. However, the injured woman said this knowledge was ignored and the employee decided to let his horse overtake anyway.
The woman who broke her back was an experienced horse rider who took part in numerous riding events across the country before her accident. Since she was injured she still suffers from pain in her back and pelvis and she is unable to ride a horse for a significant period of time.
The woman contacted a personal injury solicitor who advised her she would be eligible to make a claim for compensation against the riding school where she had the accident. She was eventually awarded £37,000 in compensation.
After the case, the injured woman commented that a number of her friends had also raised concerns that they had witnessed inconsiderate and risky behaviour by some riders at the school. She said she wanted to help ensure that this changed.
