A former shop worker is making a claim for £300,000 in accident compensation after she was injured in a workplace accident.
The 22-year-old from the South East was working for a high street retailer when a computer stack fell onto her foot and caused her significant injury. A local newspaper has reported that the woman was left permanently disabled by the workplace injury and has now developed a condition named complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). The condition is quite rare and causes an ongoing painful burning sensation. In some cases it can spread to other areas of the body and is understood to be related to dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system.
In a High Court writ, the former employee also alleges that the workplace accident led to serious psychological problems including depression. Her injury lawyers claim that the incident may have an impact on her ability to work in the future. They say her injuries could compromise her job prospects.
The woman’s former employer has accepted liability for the accident but injury lawyers and the employer are still at odds over exactly how much accident compensation the woman should receive.
