Warehouse man receives accident compensation payout

A warehouse worker who was injured in a work accident has received a compensation payout totalling £4,500.

The man was employed to pack aeroplane components by the Mitie Group at the Sunderland-based Rolls Royce depot when the incident happened.

Each component weighed just under 24kg and the worker was forced to stoop down low to pick them up. This led to him developing a serious strain injury on the right side of his chest.

Following the accident, the Sunderland man was absent from work for almost four months and the injuries he suffered took another four months to completely heal.

The man's legal team claimed that 'better planning' of the work would have stopped the accident from happening and, had even a small adjustment been made, such as keeping the heavy components higher up to prevent stooping, the accident would not have happened at all.

The Mitie Group admitted liability for the accident and paid the worker accident compensation.
He said, "I brought my compensation claim because I felt that the company could have done more to make sure the task I was doing was safe."

Following the accident, the worker has returned to work at the warehouse but is now employed under a different company.
