A man has won his claim for accident compensation after he fell from a moving taxi.
The man in question was returning home by taxi from a night out in Bristol when the accident occurred. He suffered life-threatening injuries following the incident and was in a coma for a month. He also required pressure-relieving brain surgery.
Despite the surgery, the man did still incur a brain injury and had to re-learn to walk. It was a year until he was discharged from hospital. Experts have said that it’s unlikely the accident victim will ever be able to return to the full life he had before the injury. He is unable to work, drive or play the sports which he used to enjoy.
The taxi driver concerned was cleared of dangerous driving but an accident compensation claim was pursued against the taxi’s insurance company. The case was settled out of court. Although the exact figure hasn’t been disclosed it’s said to be a “substantial” amount. Because of the circumstances of the injury, the settlement is likely to include a lump sum as well as annual payments to cover ongoing support and rehabilitation needs.
