Elderly woman receives £10,000 in accident compensation following spa fall

A pensioner who fell whilst at a luxury spa has received an accident compensation payout of £10,000.

The 62-year-old was attending the spa as a birthday treat from her husband when she slipped on a wet floor. She had just begun her weekend break when she fell. The woman, who was visiting the spa with her daughter, says they were given a tour of the spa but were not shown the pool area. She was walking towards sun loungers when she slipped on a pool of water on some ceramic tiles.

The woman landed heavily and broke her shoulder and had to undergo an operation for a pin to be inserted. She had to be taken to hospital by paramedics and needed to take three months off work and undergo four months of physiotherapy.

Her solicitor argued that the spa should have used slip-proof mats to prevent such accidents and that there should have been signs warning of potentially slippery surfaces in the spa area. It also said more care should have been taken so that any spillages were cleaned up immediately. The incident was described as “an accident waiting to happen”.
