Builder receives accident compensation after scaffolding fall

A builder has been awarded £1.2 million in compensation after he was seriously injured when he fell from scaffolding whilst working.

The self-employed builder was working on a house in 2007 when the accident happened and was using scaffolding to enable him to access the first floor. Whilst he was working he tripped and fell to the ground.

He seriously injured his spine in the fall and was left paraplegic and wheelchair-bound. The man had to stay in hospital for over a year to recover from the fall and after a month had to be moved to a specialist spinal ward.

He still requires medical help and support now and experts have said that his need are likely to increase throughout his life. They have confirmed that he is unlikely to ever be able to work again.

The man’s legal team pursued the scaffolding company for accident compensation. The case was settled out of court without the firm accepting liability. Accident compensation of over £1.25 million was agreed, which will cover lost earnings, pain, suffering and future care needs. The company in question also paid the man’s legal fees.
