A musician who was seriously injured in a road traffic accident has won £1 million in accident compensation.
The 41-year-old was walking on a busy London street after a birthday night out when the accident happened. He was crossing the road using a pedestrian crossing when he was hit by a car. He suffered head, spinal and pelvic injuries in the collision and also sustained brain damage.
Following the accident, he was in a coma for a week and had to stay in an intensive care unit for four weeks. The accident has left him with long-term psychological and neurological problems and he has restricted speech and mobility.
The man has also lost the sight in one eye and the hearing in one ear and experts have confirmed that he will be unable to work again. The victim, who had been working as a musician, was about to release an album at the time of the accident but is unfortunately now unable to play an instrument. However, he hopes to release music he had previously recorded soon.
It is reported that the driver of the vehicle admitted being under the influence of alcohol and was given a three-year driving ban and a £400 fine. The High Court this week approved accident compensation of £1,137,500 from the driver’s insurer.
