A motorcyclist who sustained life-altering injuries in a road traffic accident has been awarded £3.35 million in accident compensation.
According to media reports, the 37-year-old sustained brain and spinal cord damage in the accident and also suffered significant internal injuries after he collided with a truck in London in 2008. He was riding his Yamaha R6 600cc motorcycle through the Limehouse Link Tunnel in London when a fully loaded four-axle tipper truck struck him, reports say.
Medical experts said the man was lucky to survive the smash with the truck, but he has been left wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life. The motorcyclist’s family live in Capri, near Naples, in an area which is not wheelchair-accessible, so he is no longer able to visit them there because of the injuries he sustained in the accident.
The case was heard at the High Court in London recently. The court found that the lorry driver was negligent and caused the accident and awarded the motorcyclist £3.35 million. The judge commented that he was moved by a letter from the man’s family in Capri about the problems they have faced because of wheelchair access.
