A doctor has received a successful compensation claim, following a serious personal injury.
The 46-year-old man was awarded a total of £500,000 in accident compensation following his involvement in a collision with a horse while driving his car in January 2007, Horse and Hound reported. Dr Thomas Breslin was trapped inside his vehicle for almost two hours before emergency services were able to free him after the animal landed on the car’s roof during the incident
It is thought the horse escaped from a nearby field in the Ballyedmond, Co Wexford region of Ireland. The animal’s owner admitted liability for the accident after Dr Breslin brought an accident compensation claim to the Irish High Court.
The doctor included a personal injury claim after having to undergo surgery to his back. He also had a steel plate inserted into his neck and experienced post-traumatic stress as a result of the collision. These issues have hampered his earlier active involvement in sport.
It is also a possibility that Dr Breslin will be forced to retire from his profession early or to switch to part-time working as a result of the accident.
