Compensation claim hearing for restaurant worker continues

A compensation claim hearing at the High Court is currently underway for one restaurant worker.

The male Pizza Express employee has lodged an accident compensation claim for £200,000 with the Italian food chain. He alleges that his back was strained due to heavy lifting and he has since undergone spinal fusion surgery for the problem.

A 30kg box of frozen dough balls was the alleged cause of the problem, which the claimant believes was filled with twice the recommended amount of food. Reporting on court hearings, the Daily Mail noted that the employee was working as a bakery supervisor at the Middlesex branch of Pizza Express when he “felt his back go” as he attempted to lift the box.

The 47-year-old claimed to have been troubled with a deteriorating back problem ever since and noted that the 2008 spinal fusion treatment was largely unsuccessful in solving the issue. The restaurant has suggested that the claim is false, but the employee explained that he is a hard working person who had “come to court to tell the truth”.

His injury lawyer added that the claimant will be unable to undertake any work which involves lifting, bending or prolonged commuting as a result of the incident.
